Abstract: At present, catalytic ignition combustion is used in the application of ammonium dinitrate (ADN) based liquid propellant, while electrical ignition can avoid the problems of catalyst deactivation at high temperature and cold start. In order to study the electrical ignition characteristics of ADN-based liquid propellant, the droplet electric ignition experiments of the propellant were carried out in a sealed device with different electrode materials, and the variation of ignition delay time and combustion duration as well as combustion process were studied within 180V~230V. The results show that the ADN-based liquid propellant can be ignited by resistive ignition method. When tungsten wire electrodes are used, the ignition delay time, combustion duration and total reaction time decrease gradually with the increase of voltage. The ignition delay time, combustion duration and total reaction time decrease by 25%, 56% and 38%, respectively at 230V voltage compared with 180V voltage. When molybdenum wire electrodes are used, the ignition delay time decreases gradually with the increase of voltage in the range of 180V~200V, and remains basically unchanged in the range of 200V~230V. On the whole, the combustion duration increases slightly with the increase of voltage, but the increase is small. The total reaction time is basically stable at around 1.5s in the voltage range of 180V~230V.
