Abstract: In order to explore the effect of inlet boundary layer thickness on self-starting performance of high Mach number inlets, numerical simulation and theoretical analysis were carried out. The self-starting performance of the inlet and the height of the primary separation bubble with different boundary layer thicknesses were obtained. The influencing mechanism on flow field structure and self-starting performance were also analyzed. The results indicated that: As the relative thickness of the boundary layer increases from 0.05 to 0.3, the self-starting Mach number of the inlet remains unchanged at first, and then increases rapidly. Under the same mainstream conditions, dimensionless pressure rise across the primary separation bubble and the primary separation bubble height both decrease with the increase of the boundary layer thickness. The boundary layer momentum deficit thickness and the dimensionless pressure rise determine the self-starting performance of high Mach number inlets.
